Active registered voters will automatically receive a ballot by mail.
Early In-Person Voting
Early voting is available in all counties. Check with your county clerk’s office for specific dates and times.
Voting at the Polls
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Bring an acceptable form of ID.
Recent Voting Changes in Utah
There is ongoing litigation regarding the congressional redistricting maps that were approved in 2021. These new district boundaries, used in the 2022 election, could affect which candidates appear on your ballot. Check back for updates on this matter.
How to Register to Vote
Your county clerk must receive your registration form by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, to register for the November election. If you miss this deadline, you can still register during early voting or on Election Day.
Online
Visit Utah’s voter registration website to register or update your information, including your mailing address. A valid Utah driver’s license or state-issued ID is required.
By Mail or Email
Complete a paper registration form and mail or email a scanned copy to your county clerk’s office.
In Person
Visit your county clerk’s office or register when renewing or applying for your driver’s license or state ID card.
Registering to Vote on Election Day
Utah offers same-day voter registration during early voting and on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 5). However, you’ll need to vote with a provisional ballot and provide two forms of ID. How to Get a Mail/Absentee Ballot
If you are an active registered voter, you will automatically receive a ballot in the mail. Confirm your registration status at vote.utah.gov.
County clerks will mail ballots by Tuesday, Oct. 15. If you haven’t received your ballot shortly after that date, contact your county clerk’s office. If you haven’t voted in the past two general elections or are marked as inactive, you’ll need to update your voter registration online or contact your county clerk’s office.
Returning a Mail/Absentee Ballot
You can return your ballot by mail or in person.
By Mail
Send your ballot to your county clerk’s office, and make sure it is postmarked by Monday, Nov. 4. Instructions will be provided with your ballot. Some counties offer prepaid postage, but if not, you will need to add a stamp. Contact your county clerk’s office for details.
In Person
You can hand-deliver your ballot to your county clerk’s office during business hours or drop it off in a secure drop box or at any voting location in your county by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Visit vote.utah.gov to find drop box locations.
Track your ballot using vote.utah.gov or sign up for status notifications at BallotTrax. You can also call 801-538-1041 or email [email protected] for assistance.
Military and overseas voters have different procedures and deadlines.
Voting in Person Before Election Day
Each county must hold at least four days of early voting, and some counties may offer more. The early voting period starts on Tuesday, Oct. 22, and ends on Friday, Nov. 1. Contact your county clerk’s office for specific details.
Voting at the Polls on Election Day
Polling place information will be listed on your county clerk’s website and at vote.utah.gov. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you are in line by 8 p.m., you’ll be allowed to vote.
Voter ID Requirements on Election Day
If you’re registered to vote, you must provide one primary form of valid ID with your name and photograph or two forms of ID that together show your name and current address (such as a utility bill and bank statement). Find the full list of acceptable IDs at Vote.Utah.gov.
Voting with a Disability
Voters with disabilities may vote by mail or request a ballot via email or fax from their county clerk’s office.
If you prefer to vote in person, polling locations offer accessible voting machines. Let a poll worker know if you’d like to use one.
If you need help casting your ballot, you can ask a poll worker or bring someone of your choosing, as long as that person is not your employer, a trade union representative, or a candidate.
